TARAGUE BEACH POLICY

A "Swim at Your Own Risk" policy is in effect at Tarague Beach.

While this means that lifeguards will no longer be on duty, it enhances your availability to a tremendous resource we have on Andersen AFB.

The "swim at your own risk" policy allows water entry to our customers and base populace, such that they can essentially enjoy Tarague 7 days a week during daylight hours.

This change requests our patrons exercise responsibility, and it is critical that all visitors to Tarague follow conspicuously posted directives. Water entry at Tarague Beach is permitted:
-Only between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
-Only within the buoyed area
-Buddy system will be strictly enforced
-Pay attention to the color coded warning signs

The buddy "Wing Man" system requests that before anyone enters the water, a minimum of two (2) or more responsible individuals must be on the beach or in the water at all times. NEVER enter the water or swim alone. NEVER swim after drinking. Safety is our major concern.

Beachgoers should check to ensure the Tarague emergency phone (on yellow pole close to the concrete beach building) is working before they enter the water.

Pay attention to the color-coded signs providing water condition information. This will let you know when high surf warnings or jellyfish warnings are in effect and no swimming is allowed. DO NOT swim when the NO SWIMMING sign is out.

We ask your assistance in enforcing safety -- you may save a life.

Please immediately report any infractions to Security Forces or Outdoor Recreation Department at 366-5197.

Tarague Interpretive Trail

The Seaward Leg of the Tarague Interpretive Trail System is now cleared and tagged for navigation. Enjoy a hike on a flat, 3-mile round trip trail to see the coastline of Tarague, the native plants and the limestone forest, the coconut plantations of the past and historic latte stones. At the end of the trail, find Tarague Well No. 4, a short, point of interest tour of a freshwater sinkhole that was modified during the early development of Andersen AFB. The trail is open 7 days a week during daylight hours. For more information, contact Ray Stiers at 366-5197.
